In 1985, the late Professor Hiromitsu Naono at Faculty of Science, Kwansei Gakuin University and his graduate student, Kazuyuki Nakai (present CEO of MicrotracBEL) were started to develop “automatic gas adsorption isotherm measurement instrument”.
It used to be only glassworks’ back then.
Regarding adsorption isotherm measurement, it used to take more than a day to measure one isotherm. The operator has to control gas pressure, keep liquid nitrogen level constant. It was bothering and laborious operation. In addition, it took another couple of days to calculate adsorbed amount and specific surface area / pore size distribution.
Namely, it took around a week to evaluate only one sample in total.
Therefore, our research object was the development of totally automatic gas adsorption instrument includings of calculation for specific surface area and pore size distribution, so that anyone could measure adsorption easily and accurately.
Although it took almost 2 years, we have put our instrument together with PC, high precision manometer, automatic valve and then, have finally succeeded in the development of totally automatic gas adsorption system for specific surface area / pore size distribution. It was quite a new development in Japan.
After his success, Nakai and Yoshimoto, who was General Manager of Pressure Sensor Supplier, have decided to found a company to expand the outstanding system throughout Japan. Thus, BEL JAPAN, Inc. was established in 1988.
Our company name “BEL” stands for “Business for Enjoying Life”.
And our motto is “We all, our customers, our suppliers, sff members, and those families’ have been satisfying and enjoying lives”
We have made Mascot character “BELKONG” which Yoshimoto, the founder, was its model as well.
Thus, BEL JAPAN, Inc. has started as in the Automatic adsorption instrument manufacturer company. After that, we have become powder analysis manufacturer which deals with Vapor adsorption, Chemical adsorption & High pressure adsorption instrument.
We have received an award of Technology category at Adsorption Society of Japan, Ion exchange Society of Japan & Separation technique Society. And we have also participated in standardization committee of JIS & ISO.
We do not only sell specific surface area, pore size distribution measurement and true density measurement instrument also satisfy our each customers’ demand.
We have developed analysis instruments such as micro reactor, mixture gases adsorption instrument, Nano adsorption volume measurement instrument, separation membrane evaluation test instrument & fuel cell evaluation instrument through joint study or developments with national budget supported. And then, we have attained high technology step by step & secure position in Japan.
We have advanced into overseas market & been getting well known all over the world since 2007.

Regarding adsorption, it indicates adsorbate is differ density from solid surface’s.
Especially, our technology uses gas adsorption.
Gas molecule’s density is differing from vapor’s on solid surface when lower pressure than Salturated vapor pressure.
Namely, when adsorption numerator solid-stated onto solid surface, IT CALLS “Adsorption”. When surface area is large and pore exists a lot in a material, adsorption volume would rise.
When measuring adsorption phenomenon with constant temperature, it should be defined adsorption isotherm.
It is possible to analyze specific surface area and pore size distribution through this experiment results.
Inert gas adsorption such as N2, Ar and Kr etc. are used for solid structure analysis, and then, it is calculated specific surface area through BET theory analysis.
It is possible to analyze pore size distribution (less than several hundred nm) through each kinds of pore distribution analysis theory (BJH, HK method & NLDFT/GCMC analysis).
It is possible to evaluate solid surface through chemical adsorption using Water molecule & the other acid-basic gases.
These parameter could be basis to solve global environmental issues and energy problems. It is quite important technology for advanced material development as well.
